Hi, it’s “yoga” Zhenya here!
This post will come late, but - as they say - better late than never, right? :-)
In March YODA Studio hosted a very special event. It was a workshop on handstands with an invited instructor Olivier Maluco who also happens to be my good old friend from university days.
Maluco has been immersed in the worlds of handstands, capoeira, and acrobatics for many years. Knowing of his experience and that he possesses an extensive knowledge on handstand training, I was confident he would deliver a top-quality practice. However I must say, his workshop exceeded all my expectations.
Our training began with a comprehensive step-by-step warmup, and he made sure that every aspect needed for a successful handstand was covered. From joint mobilization to core activation and wrist flexibility, no stone was left unturned.
What truly impressed me was the gradual progression throughout the workshop. Starting from the easiest way to get into a handstand or its prep pose, Maluco guided us through various entries suitable for different body types and levels of strength.
The participants were both beginners and more advanced, and there was something for everyone. My friend instructor took the time to address individual concerns and provide personalized feedback, ensuring everyone felt supported and empowered to progress.
The workshop provided ample opportunities to practice, both with the support of the wall and in the middle of the room with the guidance of the main instructor. But most important was the encouragement that was given to help us tackle any mental blocks we encountered along the way.
Personally, I was most inspired by witnessing the progress of a beginner participant. Seeing someone conquer their fear and achieve their first handstand was truly motivating and served as a reminder that with dedication and guidance, anything is possible.
Overall, this workshop was a game-changer. Of course, it equipped me with the skills and confidence to improve my handstand practice. But there was something priceless that I gained there, - the workshop also instilled a sense of inspiration and camaraderie among all the participants, among all of us. Just please take a look at our photo, it will tell you everything!
It's amazing how even just one workshop can make such a significant difference in one's journey and mindset.
I hope that we will be holding more of such mind-changing workshops and share this amazing experience with you!
